Despite a vast amount of critical praise and a solid fan base, commercial success has not been forthcoming for Elbow. This is not to say that they have been completely without achievement; each of their four albums have breached the top 20 in the UK, they have had ten singles within the UK top 50 and their tracks can often be heard in television commercials – Grounds For Divorce appeared in adverts for Desperate Housewives and the videogame Left 4 Dead. In receiving the Mercury Music Prize in 2008 for The Seldom Seen Kid, it seems likely that Elbow are a band set to finally break out of obscurity and into the mainstream.
